New Blossoms

phone 082c blogEvery spring I feel a need deep down in my bones to change. An urge to start fresh! Clear out the cobwebs! Mix it up! It happens in my home, in my heart, and on this blog.

It was exactly 4 years ago I created Bright and Precious out of the remnants of my first blog called Wild Hope. A year ago last spring Bright and Precious got a serious make-over. This spring I’ve decided I need a name change altogether. I truly believe change is a necessary ingredient to a creative life. New spaces and new names bring new energy.

The new name of this blog is Blossom Bomb. Does the name sound familiar to you? If you’ve been reading here for awhile you might remember it was the name of a post I wrote back in 2012 which was awarded a BlogHer Voice of the Year honor. It was a huge moment in my little ol’ writing career and I’ll forever be grateful for that little post called Blossom Bomb.

But there’s also a bit of a backstory I’d like to share. When I was thinking of a name for my blog 4 years ago, Blossom Bomb was actually on the list (before I ever wrote the post). My close creative consultants liked it (ie my sister and my good friend!), but I wasn’t brave enough to go with it. Yet I’ve always had a soft spot for it. So I’m finally being brave. Even better now that it has a tie to that lovely post that opened my world.

But it doesn’t end there. Blossoms have been quite a theme in my life. I’ve written about my daughter and her blossom tree here and here. I’ve written about blossoming so many times on this blog. It seems I am synchronised with seasons and hard-wired to bloom and bloom again. I am going to run with this motif and let it colour my life.

Quite fittingly there’s some major blossom work going on right now in my home. In the last few weeks our garden has been completely transformed. The journey has been so profound in my appreciation for nature, energy and space. Gardens bring hope! And so I deliberately chose many fruit trees to line our new garden. Now I am surrounded by blossoms! I’m even naming my house and making a little sign for it. The Blossom House is a place of fresh starts and welcome.

Please forgive me for taking a moment to talk about technical matters. You might also notice there’s a new URL up there. To confuse things a little, it’s not Blossom Bomb, but my actual name. I’m hoping my name will remain the same for some time so I’m making it my URL base. This means it may affect subscriptions to my blog. If you have subscribed to Bright and Precious in the past, could you do me a favour? Could you go to the ‘You’ve Got Mail!’ section there on your right and subscribe again? Sadly not all changes in technical land are smooth and this is one of the hurdles I must bear. And if you haven’t subscribed before, I’d love have you on the list.

So welcome to Blossom Bomb! I hope it brings fresh life and fresh stories.
